Choosing A Statement Piece For Your Home - What You Should Consider

When choosing a statement piece for your home, there is a lot to consider. A statement piece begs attention, it starts conversations, it sets the tone of your everyday life in the sacred space which we call home.

Here at Wendy Mccallum art, I make original resin art pieces that are designed to do just this. Available in a multitude of unique colours, sizes and designs, there is a piece for whatever mood you wish to emanate.

Whilst there is no right or wrong when it comes to choosing artwork, there are certain things that could be deemed wise to consider when picking a suitable piece.

Here are some sensible questions to ask yourself before investing in a piece:

Where will the piece reside?

Firstly, assess the space in which you wish to place the piece. The function of the room can make a difference when it comes to the colours and sizes you may wish to choose.

In a generally more busy room such as the kitchen, more minimal designs can help balance out the movement, whilst in rooms such as the dining room, a large bright statement piece can add life and start conversations around the table.

Similarly, have a look at the size of the space you're working with. Is it small and square? Try an elongated style piece to add depth to the room. Slanted walls on either side? Try a large symmetrical piece along the flat side of the room to create an illusion of more space.

It is definitely worth mapping out your space before making a decision, so you can scope out a budget and get the most out of your resin art statement piece.

What mood do you wish to create?

Another important factor to consider is the mood you wish to create. Patterns and colours can impact our emotions and we associate specific feelings with each different hue. As with any aspect of design, it is beneficial to choose a piece that adheres visually to the mood that you are aiming for.

For example, vibrant, intense colours such as bright oranges, yellows, greens and reds create an invigorating atmosphere, perfect for kitchens, home gyms and even offices.

On the other hand, muted, neutral or darker shades of colours create a softer, more sensual and relaxed feel to a room. White, gold, deep blues and golds are perfect for bathrooms, bedrooms and more plush spaces such as living rooms.

Resin art is a beautiful way to set the tone, the whorls of colour and light can totally transform the mood, whatever that mood may be.

What is the lighting like?

A final factor to consider is the lighting in the room. Resin art is a great way to create the illusion of more light in a room, or on the other hand, tone down the lighting to create a more ambient feel.

Is your room dark? Choosing a light piece, such as white with a metallic aspect, like gold, can reflect any light back into the room and have a mirror effect. Thus, this ends up making the room feel more spacious and airy, adding an extra dimension.

As mentioned, however, sometimes you may wish to tone down the lighting in a room. For this, I would recommend deep colours, maybe even blacks, with a hint of contrast to add extra depth to the room. A striking resin art piece like this would pair well with a darker shade of paint on the walls and rich furnishings.

At Wendy Mccallum art, all original resin art pieces are completely unique, making the perfect statement pieces for your home. No matter what space you have available, or what mood you wish to create, with a selection of colours and sizes to choose from, there will be the perfect piece waiting just for you.
